The Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin. Windmill Lane, East Grinstead, West Sussex.

Welcome to our church website

St Mary's Parish covers the northern side of East Grinstead. We were founded about 110 years ago to meet the needs of the expanding town and to provide the town with worship of the catholic tradition within the Church of England. A tradition that we have upheld ever since.

We hope that you will find our website helpful. Please take a little time to browse the different areas

Window Challenge.

We launched the window challenge on Sunday 2nd July, the Anniversary of the Consecration of our church building, when we celebrated all that it symbolises for us as the people of God in this place.

The Window Challenge is a fundraising project for the next phase in our restoration and refurbishment of the church. We need to replace the failing audio system and the church lighting as a matter of relative urgency. To do this we need to raise in the region of at least £40,000. Fr PaulFr Paul announced that he" "will be moving on from St Mary’s, and that the Bishop has approved his appointment as the next Rector of St Mary’s Pulborough. Fr Paul will be concluding his time here at the end of July and beginning his new ministry in Pulborough in September."

"Fr Paul said that it will be incredibly hard to leave us, the church family, and also the parish" "for many reasons especially as he has been very happy here for the last ten and a half years. He commented that it has been a privilege to minister to such a lovely group of" "people. However, he now believes that God is calling him to a new ministry and that St Mary’s, East Grinstead needs" "someone else at the helm who can view our church’s work with fresh eyes and as a result will bring new insights." "Clearly this was neither an easy announcement for Fr Paul to make nor easy news for us to receive as individuals and as a" "church family. Fr Paul is someone whom many of us hold in high regard and deep affection. However, we must see beyond our sadness, tears and our sense of loss, and instead look to the future in a positive frame of mind – to the new opportunities that will arise building on what we have achieved together up until now."

"Fr Paul also asked that we now pray for our church and for him, looking forward with hope and expectation to all God has" "in store for us as we seek to build up His kingdom in this community and in all places where we are called to serve. With" "God’s help, we will endeavour to build on and develop the legacy he will leave behind as we begin a new chapter in our" "life together in Christ."
